HowTo DynDNS for curl and wget


  • curl and wget are command line tools for caling an url
  • with these both command is it possible to do an update within a script or directly from a terminal
curl example
  • curl --user USERNAME:PASSWORD "https://myonlineportal.net/updateddns?hostname=yourDomain.myonlineportal.net&ip=3.3.3.3"
  • you can leave out the "ip" parameter, in this case we try to detect your ip automaticly
    curl --user USERNAME:PASSWORD "https://myonlineportal.net/updateddns?hostname=yourDomain.myonlineportal.net"
  • wget example
  • wget -qO- --user=USERNAME --password=PASSWORD "https://myonlineportal.net/updateddns?hostname=yourDomain.myonlineportal.net&ip=3.3.3.8"
  • you can leave out the "ip" parameter, in this case we try to detect your ip automaticly
    wget -qO- --user=USERNAME --password=PASSWORD "https://myonlineportal.net/updateddns?hostname=yourDomain.myonlineportal.net"
  • Response Code
  • nochg no change - your update request contains the same ip adress which is already set to this domain
  • nohost - Hostname missing the hostname is missing in the update request
  • nohost - domain not found the domain was not found on our server
  • badauth - no valid user found user authorization was wrong
  • good + IP the update was successful with the given ip
